How to make pinhole camera?

In case you want to make pinhole camera for sheet or roll film, you can most certainly use a small box or can as the body of the camera. Anything that has a tight – fitting top can be used such as a vegetable shortening can, a clean paint can, a shoebox, a can of coffee or even an oatmeal box that is cylindrical, when you want to make pinhole camera.

In order to achieve a light-tight can, you should paint the inside with black paint that must be dull or line it with black paper in order to prevent the reflections of the light.

If the can you are using to make pinhole camera will have a lid made of plastic, than you should definitively paint it black. You should also make sure that, before you use it, you paint it inside and out and also make sure that none of the paint has chipped off. If you have chipped or peeled off paint on the lid, inside your pinhole camera, the light will go into the camera and it will ruin your pictures for sure.

Inside of the lid you will have the film attached so the pinhole will need to be made in the bottom end of the can you are using. Inside the can you can also make the actual pinhole but is easy as well to make it in a separate thin metal or a piece of paper, heavy and black, than you must fasten this piece over a hole that is larger and cut in the middle of the bottom end of the can. A piece of aluminum that you will cut from a can of soda, heavy-duty foil made of aluminum or Kodak 120 size roll film has the backing paper you can use as well and it is great for this purpose.

When you make pinhole camera you should check that the distance of the film from the diameter and the pinhole will mean the sharpness and the angle of view of your final image. IF you intend to make a camera with 3 to 6 inches from the actual film, if the pinhole will be 1/75 inch in diameter, you will get the best results.

The way to make a hole of this size is to push a size 10 sewing needle through the metal or paper to a point that is halfway up the shank of the needle. You need to make a pinhole as circular as possible.  These are just a few tips and tricks you should really consider when you want to make pinhole camera. Enjoy!
